Padmashree and noted satirist of the region, Dr Surendra Dubey formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.
He was given party's membership by BJP national president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Raman Singh at holy town of Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon district.
Dubey was accorded Padmashree award by the Central Government in the year 2010 and was also felicitated with ‘Kaka Hathrasi Award’ in the year 2008. Born at Bemetara, Dubey was brought up in Durg. He has dedicated his life to enrichment of the Chhattisgarhi poetry and satire.
He was also known for his efforts for inclusion of Chhattisgarh dialect to Eight Schedule for according it a status of language.
Dubey has represented the state in various national and international forums and brought laurels to the state.
