Chief Minister Raghubar Das and renowned industrialist Ratan Tata today laid foundation of the Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Sukurhuttu near the Capital City on Saturday. The demand for the hospital was raised during Momentum Jharkhand summit in the year 2017, the CM said.
Addressing the gathering during the programme here on Saturday the CM said that cancer patients will not have to go to other states for treatment after the next two years. He said that in four years, construction of six medical colleges will be completed in the State. Construction of AIIMS has started in Deoghar and today the construction work of cancer hospital also started.
Das praised the initiatives of Tata Group and said that it uses 80 per cent of its profit for the welfare of masses. He said that the way his request was met by the group he has requested Ratan Tata to assist in all round development of rural Jharkhand. He said that he has sought help from Tata to develop the villages of 1,000 panchayats in the State and provide street lights in Kolhan.
The Chief Minister said that due to efforts of Jal Sahia, there has been decrease in infant and maternal mortality rate in the state. Doctors should also work with honesty and see patients in Sadar Hospital and RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion Padma Vibhushan award recipient Ratan Tata congratulated and complimented the CM for his foresight in doing the noble work. “Lakhs of people die each year from cancer and many people have lost their will to live because the treatment is expensive and cumbersome. People die because cancer is not detected early. In India with due to lack of available medicines and treatment people die and this is a very sad scene,” he said.
“I believe the government at the Centre and the state governments have displayed considerable vision in setting up a string up cancer hospitals for screening of cancer early and treat cancer at reasonable cost and provide access to State of the art hospitals in India,”Tata added.
“And speaking for the Tata Trusts it will be our hope that when 10, 20, 30 years from now we will set the pattern with the government to reduce the number of deaths that arise from cancer. The task ahead of ourselves is not an easy one but what our goals are, I believe, are achievable. North East India is known for high number of cancer cases and I hope that the hospital that we are establishing today in Ranchi will play a major role in this part of the country in dealing with cancer,” he said.
Ranchi MP Ramatahal Chaudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar, Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sunil Kumar Barnwal, Principal Secretary (Health) Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Managing Director Tata Group T.
