Acting tough against the complaints that hospitals were fleecing patients the central government has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to furnish details about the fees being charged for the heart surgery and knee replacement.
The directives were issued after Union government reduced charges for heart surgery and knee replacement but reports galore about companies still charging more money from district hospitals who in turn charge that money from the patients.
A senior official Dr Rajiv Kumar Sharma said that Chief Medical Superintendents (CMS) of all the district hospitals of Uttar Pradesh have been asked to give details of expanses of 12 patients who had undergone heart surgery or knee replacement
Dr Sharma said that central government has reduced the prices of treatment and medicines for heart surgery and knee replacement for last one year. But it has come to light that patients are still paying exorbitant prices because companies have not reduced the prices of medical contraptions.
“As these companies are charging ore from the hospital with the result the financial burden is passed on to the patients,” he said.
Government has issued direction to submit details of patients of heart surgery and knee replacement from district hospitals, Dr Sharma said. He said that details will be submitted soon and all CMS will be in lucknow headquarter to attend video conferencing of PM Modi which will held shortly.
