Dr Mukut Minz, the famous nephrologist of the country having name and fame in international level, who operated upon Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, was felicitated at the VIMSAR Burla by the old students’ association.
Dr Minz has successfully transplanted 3,400 kidneys in India and abroad and the last one being to Swaraj
Notably, Minz was born in a poor tribal family of Sundargarh district in the year 1953.
He continued his medical education in VIMSAR and completed MBBS from here. Then he went to PGIMER Chandigarh where he completed his post graduation and also started his career there only in the department of Nephrology. He also got fellowship in the multi organ treatment such as kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation
where he has also proved his ability cum expertise both nationally and internationally. He also took special training programmes in Norway, Germany and Sweden for kidney transplantation in which he is a super specialist now.
“I was coming to Udit Nagar high school covering a distance of 12 km on foot in my high school days,” recalls Dr Minz from his childhood memory. In a family with five sisters and father as a clerk in the court, his childhood passed with financial stringency. “Still my determination to be a doctor was strong and it helped overcome all hindrances,” says Dr Minz who has been awarded Padmashree recently.
He also appealed all medical students to work with more sincerity and be kind to the patients.
