Good news for city dwellers and better environment around as the civic authorities are coming up with septage management plan through collection, transportation and treating them at five different places across the city with makeshift and portable mini Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
The Sainath Fabric Care Pvt ltd. has been selected as a successful bidder to transport the collected septage to the identified treatment facilities. The bidder has proposed to set up the makeshift portable mini STPs and to make it feasible. The BMC has to provide a land of nearly about 1,200 square feet at each location.
The proposed locations of the mini STPs are Jharpada, Gadakana inside the temporary transit station near Sainik School, Ghatikia and Basuaghai.
The BMC shall take effective measures to inform all commercial establishments, hospitals, hotels, and apartment complexes, that Sainath Fabric Care Pvt. ltd. has been selected as the successful operator for septage management within BMC area. The BMC will also write to the police and traffic police in particular for free movement of cesspool vehicles without any hindrance. The civic body shall allow putting logo of BMC along with the name of the operator on the body of the vehicles for better identification, for which formal approval of logo design has to be sought.
As per a decision, the cesspool operation should start within a time frame of 60 days. The planning for mini STPs was necessitated as the laying of the underground sewerage pipeline work by the Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) is getting delayed due to many unavoidable circumstances across the city. Sources also informed that the current work of OWSSB might take more than seven/eight months to be completed and operationalize.
Until the city gets such facilities of STPs under OWSSB, six new cesspool emptier vehicles of a collective capacity of 3,000 Kl available with BMC shall be handed over to Sainath Fabric Care Pvt. ltd. While the urban local body, besides taking effective steps for providing land of about 1,200 square feet for each site would also help in getting the power connection, the statutory permission and clearances from the OSPCB and other agencies concerned required for setting up of these temporary STPs shall be obtained by Sainath.
