Madhya Pradesh bans release of 'Padmavati'

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said that film ‘Padmavati’ would not be allowed to be released in the State unless the objectionable scenes were removed.

While addressing a gathering of representatives of Rajput community at his residence, Chouhan said, "We have been reading about the queen's sacrifice from childhood. Distortion of history will not be tolerated. Unless the objectionable scenes are removed, I will not let the film to be released across the State."

He also announced that a memorial would be built in Madhya Pradesh in memory of queen Padmavati.

He further said the State and the country is not ready to accept insult to the sacrifice of Rani Padmavati. He said that a memorial will be set up in Bhopal to exhibit Rani Padmavati's valour. The acts of gallantry of martyrs who laid down their lives for the country will be displayed at the proposed Veer Bhoomi Project for the future generation.

He stated that India has taught a lesson of bravery to the world. Indian jawans have sacrificed their lives for their pride, self-respect and motherland. Such examples of acts of valour by jawans who laid down their lives for their honour cannot be heard of anywhere in the world. Chouhan said that  person who does remarkable work in honour of women will be awarded with the Rashtramata Padmavati Award. Similarly, Maharana Pratap Award will be given for bravery. Representative teams of Rajput community from various districts submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister against the distortion of historical facts in an attempt to blur the image of Rani Padmavati.

State BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan said that historical facts related to Rashtramata Padmavati's life have been distorted for money. He said that she taught us how to live for our country. She was a source of inspiration for everyone and was not only revered by the Kshatriya community but also the entire India.
