IGRMS holds 'Sansarg Nisarg' to mark World Environment Day

Indira Gandhi National Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) organised ‘Sansarg Nisarg’ a daylong celebration of ‘World Environment Day’ with this year’s theme ‘Connecting People to Nature’. In this programme Tree Plantation, Trekking and photo walk, Punarnava exhibition and Film Screening were organised.

The Chief Guest of Environment Day programme, IFS (PCCF, Government of MP) Animesh Shukla inaugurated ‘Punarnava’, an exhibition using Dry leaves & flowers by Shashiprabha Shrivastava. On this occasion, Shukla narrated an incident from his life, he said “The relationship of nature and human is very deep and unforgettable, I just studied one year in Arunachal Pradesh yet the serene beauty of its valleys compelled me to re-visit even after half-a-century and here IGRMS is conserving and presenting many anthropological, historical and cultural assets of India”. Also he shared the upcoming programme of MP Government to planting 6 crore plants. He congratulated Mrs. Shrivastava for donating Punarnava exhibition to IGRMS for showcasing in public domain.

Earlier, Director, IGRMS Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri said “Once the flowers and leaves dries up, they are thrown away as garbage but Smt Shrivastava with her creativity and fine sense aesthetics preserved the leaves & flowers and developed it to an exhibition depicting many scenes of life and nature”.

The Environment Day celebrations commenced with Plantation drive at Jack Fruit Grove of Manav Sangrahalaya in the leadership of Director, Prof Chaudhuri. Environment lovers from Bhopal and around enthusiastically participated in this plantation programme.

 

 A special Trekking and Photo-Walk was organized for environment lovers and Photography enthusiasts. In this programme, the unexplored areas were explored today keeping aside the exhibition trail. During the two hour long trekking cum photo walk the pre-monsoon weather and little rain made it even more picturesque. The walk commenced from Desert village,  Kovil-Kadu sacred grove, Hill of the Shamla Hills, Rock Art shelters, Bamboo trail and concluded at Tribal habitat. The pictures clicked by all participants will be developed as virtual exhibition available at Museum website and facebook. All the participants were presented Sangrahalaya caps and they requested director, IGRMS to organize more such Photo-Walks.

On the occasion of International Museum Day on 18th May 2017 a competitive event ‘Treasure Hunt’ that was organised by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya. The winners of the competition were felicitated by Chief Guest, Animesh Shukla, Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri with cash prize and certificates. Followed by screening of documentaries on ‘Environment’.
