The practice of getting important documents laminated should be discouraged as such documents could pose legal and other problems for the possessor. Eminent educationist and the Principal of DAV PG college here, Dr Devendra Bhasin warned against lamination of documents and advised the students to refrain from this practice which is prevalent on a large scale.
“Generally large numbers of students get their documents laminated in order to keep them safe but they are unaware of the consequences.
The laminated documents cannot be certified and only non laminated original documents are deemed fit for certification.
Further, the courts also don’t consider laminated documents as valid ones.
Many times people get the forged documents laminated,'' he said. Bhasin further informed that in laminated documents it is hard to notice the thickness, seal, embossment or any other identification marks used to check their authenticity.
He suggested that the old practice of keeping the documents in files should be adopted by students and other people intending to safeguard their documents.
Interestingly the students are unaware about the problems they could face due to laminated documents.
“I and all my friends have got all the documents like degrees, mark sheets and certificates laminated to keep them safe. I am unaware that these documents can be rejected on account of them being laminated,’’ said Mahesh Jagudi, a law student.
“Recently I had appeared as a surety for bail of one of my colleague.
The court official rejected the laminated registration certificate of my vehicle. The document was accepted only when the lamination was removed,’’ said U S Dimri a resident of Kedarpuram.
