Sido Kanhu Park, one of the oldest and famous attractions in the city is losing its beauty.

The park made in the memory of freedom fighters — Sido and Kanhu. The trees of different species like Cinnamon, Melisia and Rudraksh  in the park stand neglected without proper care. The essence of the park seems to be disappearing for want of proper care and maintenance of the rare open space of the city.

During summer season both children and elders look to spent time in park. Sadly, due to lack of basic facilities like electricity, water and cleanliness, people avoid to visit the park. lamps and bulbs are lying across the park, making it dangerous for kids to play around.

“As the time is passing the condition of the park is becoming worse. Previously musical fountain was functioning well but now it is out of order. No light is working properly,” said a worker deployed to keep the green space upkeep.

He mentioned that there is only one staff out of fifteen who is looking after the maintenance of the park. In total there are 22 labourers.

Due to shortage of staffs the maintenance work of the park is getting hit. The staff informed that at present there is no night guard on duty.

The main attractions of the park like flowers, garden, artificial water fall, bridge, statues of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Sidhu Kanhu brothers, boating in water tank, grass lawns and trains for children are lying in poor condition due to lack of proper care.

“The in-charge of the park, Madhu Sudhir Manjhi used to visit every day for 2 hours. Around 400 people come to visit the Park in a day. The toilet facilities provided to the visitors is in good condition,” said a staff.

The park is being run by Jharkhand Forest Development Corporation ltd. Repeated attempt to get a reaction of the Corporation failed.

Sonal Sinha, a visitor said, “The stagnant water is becoming breeding place for mosquitoes. There is no cleanliness and playing equipment for kids in the park.”
