Police forced to stay top anti-terror cop's transfer

Friday, 04 September 2015 | Alok Singh | New Delhi

The Delhi Police was forced to rescind its own decision on the transfer order of an officer involved in the investigations of terror activities. Saneejv Yadav, Additional DCP, Special Cell was asked to join as Additional DCP-II of the New Delhi district but was asked to take over as DCP Special Cell following an alert by the IB. Kumar Gyanesh Additional DCP, Prime Minister’s security took over from Yadav who was asked to take over his duties at Special Cell the anti-terrorist unit of  Delhi Police.

Yadav is currently dealing with at least 150 cases, including terrorism, drug peddling and robberies. Due to the threat perceptions to his life, he has been provided with Z category security. Sanjeev Yadav, a DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service) batch officer of 1997, will remain posted with the Special Cell till the further orders.

He was transferred to the New Delhi district which is known for the protests and agitation. His transfer was part of the major reshuffle 35 IPS and DNIPS officers, in the Delhi Police, last week.

Sources in the Delhi Police said his transfer was the result of an internal cold war among the top brasses. A section had even questioned his transfer alleging that it was a ‘forced’ transfer in the district where he has to directly interact with the people and protesters and the threat to his life will increase.

Sources further said the Union Home Ministry was not happy with the decision of transferring Yadav despite having  threat to his life. According to the norms, the transfer of DCPs inside Delhi is decided by the Police Commissioner with the approval of the lt Governor while the transfer from Delhi to outside or outside to Delhi is ordered by the Union Home Ministry.

Yadav is among those officers who is credited with breaking the backbone of Indian Mujahideen (IM) by launching  sustained investigations.

That led to the arrest of all the top guns of IM and the terrorist outfit was reined in. Yadav was posted as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Special Cell when the Batala House encounter took place after serial blasts in Delhi in September 2008.

The team led by Yadav arrested IM founder Yasin Bhatkal in 2013 from India-Nepal border. During his tenure in the Special Cell, the Delhi Police busted Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore and Jama Masjid, Delhi blasts. Yadav is also instrumental in arresting dreaded criminals, robbers and drug smugglers. Recently, a team led by him arrested Delhi’s a most wanted gangster Neeraj Bawania.
