The fifth Dean's Committee meeting on higher education being organised in the Home Science College of GB Pant University concluded on Tuesday.
The meeting was organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, and was attended by 22 Deans of Home Science Colleges of various Agricultural Universities of India.The two-day discussions emphasised that B.Sc. Home Science degree programme be made as 3+1 instead of 2+2 with one year specialised course on various discipline to promote the horizontal growth. Regarding the nomenclature, it was recommended that B.Sc. Home Science degree be renamed as B.Sc. Community Science and Technology. It was also decided to include more courses of basic sciences in existing curriculum, as basic supporting courses, to cater need of students for their higher studies and placement in various institute and organisations.
It was also recommended to compile the employment record of Home Science graduates for last five years to deal with the issues of employability of Home Science graduates. It was also agreed upon that linkages with other disciplines as well as sister institutes like UGC, DST, ICAR etc. should be established. There is need to have coordination and networking with the departments like Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Ministry of Women and Child Development for employment of Home Science graduates and further strengthening of Home Science education, it was felt. At the end, Dean, College of Home Science of Pantvarsity thanked all the Deans for the participation and active discussion during the meeting.
