Kuchai Silk knitting a fashion spell in Jharkhand

Friday, 05 September 2014 | Amber | Ranchi

The Kuchai Silk churned out from the best silk cacoons of India is providing a fashion delight to the people of the State. The fabrics in various forms and attractive colours have submerged 42 stalls at the six-day Kuchai Silk Expo, which kicked off at Radisson Blu Hotel in Ranchi on Wednesday.

The expo is being organised by JHARCRAFT in 13 cities across the country, with the purpose of making a brand value of the organisation.

“The main purpose behind organising such an expo is building up our brand and search of new markets. For this very reason most of the cities that we have chosen are those where our outlets are not available and in some of the cities like Dhanbad and Jamsedpur the expo is being organized for the first time.” Said   Ashwini Sahay, DGM, Marketing (JHARCRAFT)

When asked about the response of the people of the state capital this year he said, “The response of the people of the state and specially Ranchi have been really good, such an expo is a great experience for the people of the capital as it is organized once in a year and with the weekend round the corner, we are hoping the expo will pull huge crowd.”

Instead of the claims made by the organizers, the stall owners who have come from different states like Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi, Bhagalpur, luckhnow and other parts of the country looked dejected due to decrease in the sale in comparison to last year.

“This year the sales have went down drastically in comparison to last year and we are hoping it to increase in the coming days.” said Ram Babu of Swadesi Handloom, Bhagalpur.

On the second day of the exhibition, designer silk saris, salwar suits, stoles, dress materials, dupattas, kurtis and home furnishing items depicting tribal art were up for grab to the visitors. Both traditional and modern designs made from silk from across the

country seeked the attention of the visitors.

“Silk for me represent Royalty and is really comfortable to wear and such an expo provide the buyers like me the opportunity to explore through wider range of silk saris from different states under one roof” said Poonam Jha, a resident of Harmu housing colony.

The expo is open for public from 11am to 9pm, offering discount on selected kuchai

silk products.
