In a bid to provide clean and fresh air to the residents of state capital, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is to open an oxygen park in Morhabadi ground spread over an area of 16,000 sq m. The first of its kind park will have effect of forest.
The 70 per cent land of the park will be dedicated to the trees, around 20 per cent to the flowering trees and remaining 10 per cent to flowering plants. The project is expected to begin within a month’s time.
RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya sharing information about the same, “Majority of the planted trees will be indigenous ones like neem and peepal, while the remaining area in the park will have flowering shrubs. On the basis of local climatic adaptability, soil condition and water absorption capacity the trees for the park will be selected. Those which can release high amount of oxygen will be preferred.”
According to Vijayvargiya the park will work like a health centre. The trees that will be planted are nesting trees which will provide forest like feeling to both birds and human beings.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 65 lakh. Chief Minister Hemant Soren had sanctioned a sum of Rs 45 lakh for the same on Thursday. Chief Conservator of Forest has been assigned the duty of handling the project. The project is accepted to come up by the end of this year.
Ranchi DFO Rajeev lochan Bakshi said, “Right now the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) work is in process. We are planning to commence the project by within a month’s time frame.”
RMC has planned to open six new parks in the city. The rising mercury level in the city is the biggest reason behind RMC making beeline to parks and gardens. Recently, they have opened see through parks in city’s different areas. They are also planning to open a jogger’s park for the residents in Morhabadi area.
“In city people do not get a chance to be near forest. This park will provide clean and fresh air to those living within the city. In Ranchi due to rapid urbanisation, the green spaces within the city are shrinking fast. This is a small initiative in the direction of providing people healthy life,” added RMC CEO Manoj Kumar.
Besides the trees there will be a path to walk on, some benches for citizens to sit and a small pond. According to RMC officials, the lawn portion in the park will be less as the intention is to provide fresh air.
