Hundreds of Gaon Sathis who had been agitating in front of the Assembly since November 20 demanding job regularisation on Friday called off their strike after an assurance of Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahu.
According to a Press release issued by Gaonsathi Sangha Milita Kriyanusthan Committee president laxmidhar Biswal, a detailed discussion on the demands of Gaon Sathis was held with the Minister at his Assembly chamber on Thursday.
“The Minister studied our job regularisation and others demands and assured us that he would hold discussion with the Finance, law Departments and Chief Minister for the fulfilment of the demands,” said Biswal.
The Gaon Sathis have been demanding regularisation of jobs, regular jobs under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) on the basis of their qualification in the Panchayati Raj Department and a provision of minimum remuneration of Rs 5,000 per month to those who would not get regular jobs.
