BJP was against Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar: Maya

Tuesday, 15 April 2014 | Pioneer News Service | Lucknow

Accusing her opponents of remembering Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar only when elections are on, Bhaujan Samaj Party chief alleged that Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) was against giving due recognition and `Bharat Ratna’ to Baba Saheb. She also take on Narendra Modi and questioned about his `caste’ while terming him as the biggest lier who had no knowledge of history.

``BJP’s PM candidate claimed that he was alone and dedicated to serve the nation but now his wife came into picture and truth was every one”, quoted Mayawati while saying that he also suddenly claimed himself to be belonging to backward class just to woo voters.``Why he was not telling the public about his caste while saying that he was from backward class”, asserted Mayawati asking the BJP’s PM candidate to tell his caste to the people of the country. Mayawati was reacting to Modi’s statement which said that Baba Saheb only got recognition and Bharat Ratna just as they pursued his case.

Expressing her annoyance over the reported remark of Modi during an election meeting in UP on Monday morning that BJP was instrumental in giving Bharat Ratna to B R Ambedkar and putting his portrait at the Central Hall of the Parliament, Mayawati claimed, that Modi was telling full lies that BJP was responsible for the Bharat Ratna to Babsaheb.’’It was the V P Singh government in 1990 which accorded

the Bharat Ratna and put up his portrait at the Central Hall on the pressure mounted by the BSP for the both,’’ she told reporters here. ‘’BSP had demonstrated at Boat Club in Delhi for more than six months on demand of giving honour to Dr Ambedkar and implementation of Mandal Commission report but on the other hand BJP annoyed with the V P Singh government over its decision to give Bharat Ratna to Babasaheb and

Mandal commission, brought out the Ayodhya Rath Yatra and later withdrew support from the government,’’ she said.

She further take on Narendra Modi claiming that he had no knowledge of the history and was giving distorted facts in his election speeches in UP, Bihar, Punjab and other places. Mayawati also appealed to Muslims and dalits to unite and vote for the BSP as it was the only party in the country which can prevent Modi from becoming the PM.’’ Division of Muslims or dalit votes will certainly give the communal forces an edge in the elections,’’ she said while alleging that BJP and SP have conspired to polarise the elections in Western UP.

Supporting the Election Commission(EC) decision to ban BJP leader Amit Shah and SP leader Azam Khan, the BSP supremo said the ban against these leaders should not be lifted at any cost as both the leaders are creating communal tension during their campaigning. ‘’Shah was going to the dalits in western UP and seeking their support in the name of Hindu. But every dalit knows that this is a BJP ploy to seek vote during the elections and term them untouchable after the polls ends,’’ she claimed.

Talking about the so called revolt by senior BJP leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi against Modi and Rajnath Singh, Mayawati said every Brahmin knows that BSP is the party which cared for the community as it has given 21 brahmin candidates alone in UP. ‘’BJP is facing inner bickerings within the party and it will lead them to hell,’’ she said. Interestingly, when asked that she formed government with BJP’s support thrice and even campaign for Narendra Modi in Gujrat, Mayawati said  that she run the government with BJP’s help but on her dictates. ``I run the government with BJP but I dictate the terms of support and once BJP back tracked from it, I never compromised on issue of Dalits and Muslim’s welfare and preferred to resign”, she clarified.
