SC objects to ex-CJI being called as ‘KGB’
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday took exception to an advocate using initials “KGB” to refer to former Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan in his petition seeking his removal as the NHRC Chairman. A Bench headed by Justice BS Chauhan questioned the advocate Ml Sharma for using the abbreviated form of his name. “How can you use such termIJ It is not the name of a company or organisation,” the bench said. It also refused to entertain the petition filed by Sharma against Justice Balakrishnan, who is at present heading the NHRC.
AIR to update news through SMS
New Delhi: All India Radio on Monday started a free SMS service to provide important news to subscribers. launching the service, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said that SMS service began on a pilot scale about six months back and in view of overwhelming response, its reach is being widened. He hoped the service which is subscribed by two lakh people at present will touch the five lakh figure by the end of this month. People willing to subscribe to the service can simply SMS AIRNWS (rpt AIRNWS) <space> their name to 08082080820. They can also give a missed call to the said number to subscribe to the service. Tewari also launched the on-line web portal of Bharat Nirman.
Govt to bear babus treatment bill abroad
New Delhi Bureaucrats and their dependent family members can now get complex medical treatment abroad at State expense and also get their airfare reimbursed under Government’s new rules that comes at a time when it is facing flak over the ailing economy. A member of All India Services — Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) — can also be airlifted outside the state in cases of a medical emergency, the new rules by Ministry of Personnel said. Earlier, reimbursement of cost of medical treatment incurred abroad by All India Services officer was disallowed.
