hief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint in the country by 2070 and find alternatives to depleting fossil fuels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious target of producing 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Madhya Pradesh is contributing with full dedication and commitment to achieving this national goal. He highlighted that in the past 12 years, the state has witnessed an unprecedented 14% growth in the renewable energy sector, increasing its share in total energy production to over 30%.
Due to Madhya Pradesh’s Technology-Agnostic Renewable Energy Policy at GIS-Bhopal, the state has received significant investment proposals in the renewable energy sector. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged India’s tremendous progress in the energy sector over the past decade during the inauguration of GIS-Bhopal. He mentioned that in the last 10 years, more than $70 billion (over ?5 trillion) has been invested in renewable energy, creating over 1 million jobs in the clean energy sector. Prime Minister Modi also emphasized Madhya Pradesh's vital role in this growth, stating that the state currently has a power generation capacity of approximately 31,000 MW, of which 30% is green energy.
Prime Minister Modi, in his address at the GIS inauguration, highlighted that Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa Solar Park is among the largest solar parks in the country. Additionally, India’s largest floating solar power plant was recently inaugurated in Omkareshwar, marking a new milestone in renewable energy production.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that due to its geographical location and abundant natural resources, Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s leading power-surplus states. The state government is continuously working towards environmental conservation and energy self-sufficiency, prioritizing renewable energy expansion.
Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to implement a Technology-Agnostic Renewable Energy Policy. This policy provides investors with flexible and favorable opportunities to boost solar and wind energy, creating new dimensions in the energy sector.
In a historic step towards environmental conservation and the promotion of renewable energy, Sanchi is being developed as the state’s first solar city. It will be based on the "Net Zero Carbon" principle, where the energy consumed will be equivalent to the green energy produced. This project will serve as an inspiring model for the country and the world.
The state government is developing a dedicated manufacturing zone in Narmadapuram for power and renewable energy equipment. This initiative will encourage industries related to the energy sector and generate new employment opportunities in the state.
With Chief Minister Dr. Yadav’s visionary policies and the government’s robust efforts, Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a green energy hub. Currently, the state has five major solar projects with a combined production capacity of 2.75 GW (2,750 MW). The government plans to increase renewable energy production capacity to 20 GW (20,000 MW) by 2030.
The Madhya Pradesh government is attracting an investment of ?5,21,279 crore in the renewable energy sector, which will create 1,46,592 jobs. Renowned companies such as Avaada Energy, MKC Infrastructure Limited, Axis Energy Ventures, NSL Renewable Power Private Limited, Torrent Power, and Jindal India Renewable Energy have proposed investments at GIS-Bhopal. This investment will accelerate renewable energy production in the state and boost industrial development.
