Woman alleges sexual harassment in moving car, accused apprehended

A 24-year-old woman accused a man known to her of sexually harassing and molesting her inside a moving car in Delhi’s Mandawali after he allegedly lured her out on the pretext of treating her to momos. A senior Delhi police officer said they apprehended the accused, identified as Vikas.
According to the complaint, the woman agreed to accompany the accused after he invited her to eat momos.
During the drive, he allegedly told her he needed to refill the car’s CNG and took her room key. However, instead of heading to a CNG station, he allegedly drove towards a deserted location.
The woman alleged that once the car reached the isolated stretch, the accused began making obscene remarks, demanded sexual favours and touched her inappropriately.
She also claimed he prevented her from getting out of the vehicle despite her repeated pleas.
As the situation escalated, the woman started recording the incident on her mobile phone. According to the police, the video purportedly captures her pleading with the accused to let her go. She can also allegedly be heard warning him that she would jump in front of a vehicle if he touched her, while the accused is heard repeatedly telling her that it would “only take two minutes.”
Following the incident, the woman approached the Mandawali Police Station and lodged a complaint.
Based on her statement, Delhi Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to sexual harassment, assault or use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.
Police said they apprehended the accused soon after registering the FIR. Investigators are examining the mobile phone recording submitted by the complainant along with other evidence as part of the probe.
Officials said they will take further legal action after examining all evidence and completing the investigation.
