West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari sworn in as MLA in Legislative Assembly

Suvendu Adhikari took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in West Bengal following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Adhikari, who recently became the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal, won from both the Nandigram and Bhabanipur constituencies in the Assembly elections.
Before entering the Assembly premises, Adhikari bowed before the steps of the Legislative Assembly as a mark of respect. He was also accorded a guard of honour during the proceedings.
Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh also took oath as MLA from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency during the Assembly session.
The BJP registered a historic victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, winning more than 200 seats in the 294 member Assembly and ending the Trinamool Congress government’s long rule in the state.
Adhikari had earlier taken oath as Chief Minister on May 9 in Kolkata in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior BJP leaders.
