Roof collapse injures 10 schoolgirls in Sindh

Ten schoolgirls were injured Wednesday when the roof of their classroom collapsed at a primary school in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, police said.

The incident took place in the Mehar area of Dadu district, where the roof of a classroom caved in while classes were underway, a local police official said. The school building had reportedly been in a dilapidated condition.

The injured students were taken to a hospital in Dadu for treatment, the official said.

According to police, the collapse occurred in Sanwal Kreto village, where residents had for some time been raising concerns about the poor condition of the school building.

The incident has renewed concerns over the state of school infrastructure and access to education in Sindh.

It comes days after the Sindh Film Censor Board declined to clear for exhibition a Pakistani documentary examining the issue of "ghost schools" in the province.

Seemab Gul, who financed, produced and directed the documentary, told PTI last week that she made the film to draw attention to a serious problem affecting children's education in Sindh. "During the making of our documentary, we researched and discovered there are around 15,000 ghost schools operating in Sindh," she said.
