Voting Begins in Bengal’s High-Stakes Falta Seat Amid Tight Security

Repolling began in West Bengal’s Falta Assembly constituency under heavy security arrangements, turning the seat into one of the most closely watched political battlegrounds in the state.
The Election Commission ordered fresh voting across all polling stations in the constituency following allegations of electoral irregularities and disruption of the democratic process during the earlier phase of polling.
Authorities deployed extensive security measures, including Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel and Quick Response Teams, to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.
Tight monitoring arrangements have been put in place at polling stations to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain law and order during the repoll process.
The Falta constituency has emerged as a politically significant seat due to intense competition and recent developments involving candidate withdrawals and allegations made by rival parties. Reports suggest that the repoll became more significant after political tensions escalated in the constituency in recent days.
According to Election Commission data, voter participation began steadily, with polling progressing peacefully during the initial hours.
Officials stated that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure voters could cast their ballots freely and securely. Counting of votes for the constituency is scheduled for May 24.
