342 arrested in special drive in Muzaffarpur of Bihar, ahead of Independence Day

Police arrested 342 people in a special drive ahead of Independence Day in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district on Friday, officials said.
SP (City) Mohibullah Ansari said 190 of those arrested had been sent to judicial custody.
The crackdown was launched to curb crime and expedite the disposal of pending cases, he told reporters.
Police teams conducted raids at various locations across the district, he said.
The highest number of arrests, 72, was made in the East-1 subdivision, he added.
Security has also been stepped up across the district ahead of Independence Day, with increased surveillance and checking at key locations, sensitive areas and major routes, officials said.
Raids are also being conducted at various hotels, they said.
