VIT Chennai celebrates University Day

The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, celebrated its University Day on Tuesday, (April 7, 2026). Binod Kumar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indian Bank, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Major Vaibhav Chaurasia, alumnus of VIT Chennai, attended as the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by Dr G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of VIT, in the presence of Dr GV Selvam, Vice-President of VIT.
In his address, Binod Kumar encouraged students to prepare themselves for a rapidly changing world. He stressed the importance of continuous effort and adaptability to overcome challenges and seize opportunities. He also highlighted the need for innovation with a focus on improving the end-user experience.
“Always keep this in mind, in banking we think about how we can make the life of the customer easy. I am emphasising this point because this will help you in striving for perfection within yourself,” he said.
Emphasising the role of knowledge and character, Mr. Binod Kumar said that knowledge is one thing that will help you in shaping yourself. Knowledge can take you up to a stage, beyond that, it is your characteristics which will shape you,” he noted.
Major Vaibhav Chaurasia urged students to draw inspiration from their surroundings and focus on positive influences. He urged them to remain resilient and maintain self-belief.
“Never give up, never have a doubt in yourself. Things will not work out and things will go wrong, but you have to keep working hard and always do things right,” he added.
In his presidential address, Dr G Viswanathan underscored the transformative power of education. He stated that education uplifts not only individuals and families but also society, the state, and the nation as a whole. He emphasised that achieving the vision of a developed nation depends on universal access to quality education and economic growth driven by knowledge.
The function concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to meritorious and outstanding students in recognition of their academic and overall excellence.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of VIT Chennai Professor T Thyagarajan, Director of VIT Chennai Professor K Sathiyanarayanan and Additional Registrar of VIT Chennai Professor PK Manoharan were also present at the function.
