The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 7.75 kg of hydroponic cannabis, valued at around Rs 2.71 crore in the illicit market, from an Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, officials said.
The contraband was concealed inside an electric geyser in the passenger’s checked-in baggage, which was searched by DRI officials on Monday.
Upon opening the appliance, officials recovered 73 packets containing a greenish substance weighing 7.750 kg in total. The substance tested positive for ganja using a narcotic drugs detection kit and was identified as high-grade cannabis, commonly known as hydroponic weed.
The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the contraband was seized under the Act.
