US Envoy Sergio Gor says ‘Importance Of India Is Now’

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor underlined India’s growing strategic importance for the United States, highlighting trusted cooperation in pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and critical supply chains under the Pax Silica initiative.
Addressing the US-India TRUST Initiative event at IIT Delhi, Gor said the US administration views India as a key global partner in shaping future technologies and strengthening resilient supply chains. “The importance of India is now,” he said while stressing the expanding partnership between the two democracies.
The envoy pointed out that nearly 40 per cent of generic medicines used in the United States are sourced from India, describing the pharmaceutical relationship as one built on deep trust. He said both countries are collaborating to expand manufacturing capacity for active pharmaceutical ingredients and critical medicines to prevent future shortages and secure healthcare supply chains.
Gor also highlighted India’s inclusion in the US-led Pax Silica initiative, a strategic framework focused on trusted ecosystems for artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technologies and critical infrastructure. India formally joined the initiative in February during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
According to Gor, India was among the first 10 countries invited into Pax Silica because of Washington’s confidence in India’s technology ecosystem, governance and manufacturing capabilities. He added that dozens of countries later expressed interest in joining the initiative after India’s entry.
The envoy further said growing American investments in India reflect confidence in the country’s policy environment and innovation ecosystem, especially in advanced technology and pharmaceutical sectors.
