Uma Chetry selected in India squad against South Africa

In a moment of significant pride for the Northeast, Assam’s talented wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry has been selected in the Indian women’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20 International (T20I) away series against South Africa.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) officially announced her inclusion on Tuesday, marking another milestone for the State’s cricketing landscape. Chetry, who has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit, will join the national side for the high-octane series scheduled to be held next month.
The five-match series is slated to take place on 17th, 19th, 22nd, 25th, and 27th April. This selection provides Chetry with a vital opportunity to showcase her skills on the international stage against a formidable South African side in their home conditions.
Extending his congratulations, Sanatan Das, Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, stated that the ACA takes "immense pride" in her achievement. The association further wished her the very best for the upcoming tour, noting that her journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the region.
The selection is being viewed by local experts as a testament to the growing infrastructure and talent identification programmes within the ACA, which has increasingly seen players from the state breaking into national reckoning.
