Terrorists on the run in Udhampur

A group of hungry Pakistani terrorists are on the run in the upper reaches of the Udhampur district of Jammu division. As the security forces have choked their supply lines by cracking down heavily on their overground worker (OGWs) network, these foreign terrorists are resorting to snatching cooked food from the villagers to survive the harsh weather conditions in the upper reaches of the Jammu region.
On Saturday, at least two armed terrorists barged into the house of a villager in a Chore Motu village located in the Majalta tehsil of Udhampur and took away large quantities of food before vanishing into the nearby forest area.
Soon after, the security forces, camping in the area, launched searches to trackdown their footprints. The searches continued on Sunday with the first light, but till the time of filing the report, no contact was established with these terrorists.
Similar reports have surfaced in the past when these terrorists on the run demanded food from villagers and spared them before vanishing into the nearby jungles.
An encounter took place in the same area on December 15 in which one jawan of the special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir police sacrificed his life after receiving bullet injuries during the initial exchange of fire.
Senior police officials claimed the same group of terrorists is believed to have been hiding in the area for a couple of days.
The security forces are conducting long patrols and regular searches in the forest area to neutralise them.
The security forces have been maintaining a tight cordon in the area and have plugged large gaps with the help of additional deployment. The villagers have been sensitised to keep a close watch on the suspicious movement of non-locals in the area to prevent any other terror strike.
In the past, several encounters broke out between the security forces and these foreign terrorists in the upper reaches of Udhampur, bordering Kathua district, but success eluded security forces as these foreign terrorists, trained in jungle warfare, managed to flee the cordon.
The area has witnessed multiple encounters over the past year, including a significant operation on September 11, 2024, where two JeM terrorists were killed. On April 24, Havaldar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of the Army’s 6 PARA was killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in the Basantgarh area.
On April 9, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Jopher-Marta belt of Basantgarh in Udhampur district.
On September 20, an Indian Army jawan was ‘killed in action’ during an intense gunfight with a group of terrorists in the forest area of Kanji bordering Udhampur-Doda districts.
Earlier, a Pakistani terrorist was neutralised by the joint team of security forces on June 26 in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur.
On April 12, three terrorists, including a top commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist outfit, were killed during a four-day-long encounter in the Naidgam area of Chatroo in the Kishtwar district without suffering any collateral damage.
