21 Tamil Nadu pilgrims rescued in Nepal amid devastating flash floods
Twenty-one Tamil Nadu residents who had travelled to Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra have been rescued following the devastating flash floods in the neighbouring country, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday, August 27.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the names of the 21 rescued Indian nationals in a post on X.
The rescued pilgrims are Sivaranjani Muthunathan, Karpagam Rajamohan, Maran Govindasamy, Shanthi Maran, Muthukumaresan Ramalingam, Navu Kabirdoss, Vijayabhuvaneswari Viswanathan, Mythili Muthukumaresan, Thiyagarajan Rathinam, Kirubagari Balasubramaniyam and Vallinayaki Sivakumar.
The list also includes Sathiya Jayaraman, Thirumavalavan Govindarasu, Kanagasabai Natesapillai, Radhai Kanagasabai, Rathinakumar Kunchithapatham, Poonguzhali Ponnambalam, Pazhaniyappan Maickaperumal, Kalaimathi Pazhaniyappan, Raghunathan Muniraj and Manimekalai Sukumar.
"Update on Indian nationals rescued in Nepal. 21 Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu, who travelled for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, have been rescued in Nepal," Jaiswal said.
The update was issued as rescue and relief operations continued across flood-hit Nepal.
Massive flash floods originating from Tibet swept through central Nepal on Wednesday, devastating several towns and villages, washing away key bridges and disrupting infrastructure, including around a dozen hydropower projects.
The floods have left hundreds of people dead or missing, with authorities continuing efforts to locate stranded and missing people across the affected areas.
