Tamil Nadu Cabinet Expanded Under Vijay; Congress Returns After Nearly Six Decades

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay expanded his cabinet in a major political move, inducting 23 new MLAs into the Council of Ministers and significantly increasing the strength of his government.
The expansion comes only weeks after the formation of the new administration and is being viewed as an effort to strengthen governance and provide broader representation within the ruling setup.
One of the most notable developments in the expansion is the return of the Congress party to the Tamil Nadu government after nearly six decades.
Two Congress legislators, Rajesh Kumar and P. Vishwanathan, were inducted into the ministry, marking the party’s first participation in a Tamil Nadu cabinet in around 59 years.
Political leaders described the move as a significant moment in the state's political landscape.
With the latest cabinet expansion, the strength of the Vijay-led government has reportedly increased to 33 ministers.
The move also reflects efforts to maintain coalition balance and bring wider political participation into the administration.
Analysts believe the cabinet restructuring may play an important role in shaping the future direction of the government.
The development is being closely watched as Vijay, who recently entered active politics and formed the government under the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), continues to shape his administration and establish his political leadership in the state.
