SIT readies interim report on Ram Temple row

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating allegations of embezzlement of donations at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya is anticipated to submit an interim report to the Supreme Court on Monday, according to sources familiar with the matter.
This development follows the recent directives issued by the SC during hearings on petitions seeking a fair and expeditious investigation. Sources also indicated that the SIT may seek additional time from the Uttar Pradesh Government to complete its investigation.
The SIT, formed by the State Government, has been reviewing claims of mismanagement and misappropriation of funds and offerings at the temple.
The SC had directed the SIT to provide a status report on the handling of donations and called for increased transparency and accountability. Petitioners had demanded an independent, time-bound investigation to address allegations related to the collection, counting, and recording of cash and valuables offered by devotees. Submission of the report to the SC is seen as a step toward complying with judicial directives and providing the court with updates on the investigation.
The allegations have sparked debate regarding the management of temple finances and the necessity for robust systems to protect devotees’ offerings made in good faith. The trust has affirmed its cooperation with the investigation and its commitment to transparency.
