Punjab Police dismantled ISI-backed terror module

In a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation, the Counter-Intelligence wing of Punjab Police has dismantled an ISI-backed terror module being run by Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs). Three accused have been apprehended, and two hand grenades along with a foreign-made Glock pistol have been recovered, police officials said on Monday.
The operation highlights strong cross-border linkages, with the recovered hand grenades bearing clear markings of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF). This recovery points to the supply of arms and explosives from Pakistan for use in anti-India activities.
One of the three accused was arrested from Ahmedabad in a swift coordinated operation carried out with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Gujarat, while the remaining two were taken into custody in Punjab.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the module was involved in the systematic targeting of police establishments across multiple states. Intelligence inputs suggest the group was planning coordinated strikes on security installations but the timely intervention by Punjab Police and its partner agencies has successfully averted what could have been a major threat.
An FIR has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and the Arms Act at the Police Station of the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. Further probe is underway to trace the full network, including handlers and financiers operating from across the border. “Efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and apprehend other members of the module,” police sources confirmed. This breakthrough comes as part of the Punjab Police’s sustained campaign against terror networks attempting to destabilise the state through proxy modules. The involvement of PIOs in the module once again underscores the ISI’s strategy of exploiting diaspora connections for subversive activities inside India.
The Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, has commended the Counter-Intelligence team and the Gujarat ATS for the seamless inter-state coordination that led to the arrests and seizures. Security agencies remain on high alert, with intensified checks being carried out across sensitive locations, sources added.
