Pranit More issues fresh apology in ‘Rs 370 Biryani’ Row, says “I deserve this hate”

Stand-up comedian Pranit More has issued a second public apology amid the controversy surrounding the viral “Rs 370 biryani” remark made during one of his comedy shows. Acknowledging his mistake, More admitted that he failed to intervene when an audience member made offensive comments and said he deserved the criticism directed at him.
The controversy erupted after a crowd interaction at a Gurugram show, where an attendee claimed he spent Rs 370 on a plate of biryani during a date and expected sexual favours in return. More was seen laughing during the exchange, triggering widespread outrage on social media. Both the comedian and the audience member later apologised, but the incident continued to draw criticism.
In a video statement, More described his reaction as a “lapse in judgment” and admitted that he should have stopped the remarks immediately. He said giving a platform to such comments escalated the issue and hurt many people. Seeking a second chance, he assured the public that he would learn from the episode and work towards becoming a better person.
The controversy has also attracted official attention. The National Commission for Women summoned More and the audience member, stating that the comments appeared to glorify sexual coercion and non-consensual behaviour. Meanwhile, a cyber police case has been registered against the comedian over allegedly objectionable content.
The incident has reignited debate over the limits of comedy and freedom of expression. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that while stand-up comedy is a legitimate form of entertainment, freedom of expression should not come at the cost of another person's dignity.
