Power, public office meaningful only when rooted in service, says Speaker

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Sunday said that power and public office derive their true meaning only when they are rooted in service and compassion. The Speaker was addressing a large spiritual gathering at the Jain Teerth Veeroday Nirman Vihar in the national capital.
Gupta was the chief guest at the Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha Mahotsav, held for the Pran Pratishtha of Lord Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara and Vishwakarma of Jain philosophy.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker described the occasion as more than a religious ceremony, calling it a moment of spiritual reflection and inner peace. Gupta said Lord Rishabhdev, also known as Adinath, laid the foundations of civilisation by teaching the values of labour, duty and discipline. “Through this Pran Pratishtha, those eternal values are being revived in modern life. Lord Rishabhdev showed the world how work, responsibility and ethics can coexist with spirituality,” he said.
Highlighting the contribution of the Jain community, Gupta said it has consistently played a constructive role in nation-building through its commitment to simplicity, self-discipline and non-violence. He said these principles remain deeply relevant at a time when society is grappling with conflict, intolerance and material excess.
Gupta said governance and public service must ultimately focus on the welfare of the most marginalised sections of society.
The Speaker also thanked the Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha Mahotsav Samiti for organising the event, saying their efforts had enhanced the spiritual and cultural stature of Delhi.
