PM’s call for austerity indicates advent of financial emergency: Kuldeep Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for austerity signals that the country is moving towards financial emergency, All India Congress Committee’s national spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Rathore said on Tuesday.
He said the Prime Minister’s appeal urging people to refrain from purchasing gold, curtail foreign travel, limit consumption of petrol and diesel, and cut down on expenses has created an atmosphere of insecurity and anxiety across the nation.
Rathore, a former state Congress chief and the sitting MLA from Theog constituency, remarked that before imposing austerity measures on the public, the Central government must curb its own unnecessary expenses.
The prime minister should curtail the foreign tours undertaken by ministers and officials, as well as the overall government extravagance, he said.
He further said that Modi should clarify the prevailing economic situation in the country.
