PM Narendra Modi and Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi have unveiled a new roadmap to deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, placing artificial intelligence (AI) at the centre of future cooperation.
During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, the two leaders oversaw the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering AI, defence, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, and economic security.
Prime Minister Modi described technology as the strongest pillar of the next phase of bilateral ties and said the agreements would strengthen collaboration in emerging sectors while promoting innovation, resilient supply chains, and secure digital infrastructure.
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in defence manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, and critical minerals, alongside boosting investments and trade.
Japan also announced fresh investments worth over $10 billion, while both countries set a long-term target of attracting ¥10 trillion in Japanese investment into India over the next decade.
The new agreements are expected to accelerate joint research, technological innovation, and industrial partnerships, marking a significant step forward in the India-Japan relationship.
