Patna court defers hearing on Khan Sir's anticipatory bail plea till Wednesday

A Patna court deferred the hearing on educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, and his anticipatory bail plea in connection with the coaching institute firing case until Wednesday.
The court also postponed the hearing on the bail applications of Khan Sir's two security guards, who are currently in judicial custody. The case stems from a firing incident in early June after a group of alleged miscreants vandalised Khan Global Coaching Institute in Patna. The security guards are accused of opening fire during the violence.
Speaking to reporters, the institute's legal advisor Rajat Singh said the court heard arguments on several issues, including the validity of the guards' firearm licences. He said questions regarding the criminal antecedents of the accused were also raised following an application filed by the opposing side.
"The court has sought documents from both parties. After examining them, the matter will be heard again on Wednesday," Singh said.
Addressing concerns over the firearm licences, Singh stated that the licence of one guard had expired two months ago but could still be renewed within the legally permitted six-month grace period.
He maintained that the lapse constituted a bailable offence and was unlikely to affect the bail proceedings. Singh also said the guards possessed licences valid in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, along with a travelling licence that permitted them to carry firearms across states.
The case is under investigation, and the court is expected to resume hearing the anticipatory bail plea and related applications on Wednesday.
