Pakistan duo who fled Jammu juvenile home held in Ludhiana

In less than twenty-four hours, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab police, with the help of central intelligence agencies, tracked and arrested two Pakistani nationals from a village in Ludhiana on Tuesday.
Exposing the loopholes in the security apparatus, the Pakistani nationals escaped from a juvenile home without facing any resistance, after opening fire on the policemen on duty in the Ranbir Singh Pora area of Jammu late Monday evening. However, the local gangster who also escaped with them remained at large, and efforts are on to arrest him.
Several teams were dispatched to various locations to track down their footprints late Monday evening. The arrests were made on Tuesday afternoon from an undisclosed location in Ludhiana.
Karanjit Singh alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar in RS Pura, and Pakistan citizens Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar allegedly attacked police personnel. They fled from the juvenile home at around 5.15 pm on Monday. Two cops were injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, taking strict note of the major breach of security, six police personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector, were suspended over alleged dereliction of duty leading to the escape of three inmates from a juvenile home.
A departmental inquiry has been launched to determine how the inmates managed to escape after opening fire. The inquiry is also taking place to determine how these three inmates managed to lay their hands on a country-made pistol and whether the security of the observation home was compromised due to complacency.
A separate FIR under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 262 (resisting, obstructing, or escaping from lawful custody), 307 (theft with preparation to cause death, hurt or restrain), 111 (organised crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 3 and 25 under Arms Act (unauthorised possession, carriage, use of firearms) has been registered to carry out the investigations in the case.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Inspector General, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, along with other officers, rushed to the spot late Monday evening and took stock of the situation. The top brass of the police also faced a piquant situation as CCTV footage of the shooting inside the juvenile home also went viral on various social media platforms.
Former DGP SP Vaid questioned the police over the incident. He pointed out that all three inmates had already ceased to be juveniles. “One of the inmates procured a locally-made ‘katta’ (crude pistol), and all three escaped, possibly trying to cross the border. I am sure police teams will catch them before they do,” Vaid said in a post on X.
