New eco-tourism policy boosts tourism: Goa Minister

Goa is strengthening ecotourism and nature-based tourism under a new structured framework, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said. The Department of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) are promoting responsible travel beyond beaches, with a strong focus on conservation, local livelihoods and self-help groups.
GTDC has developed eco-cottages in Selaulim, launched jeep safaris, forest treks and monsoon trails to Dudhsagar Waterfalls in collaboration with the Forest Department. rafting on the Mhadei River in Sattari has also been introduced. Upcoming projects include a wellness centre and eco-cottages at Anjunem (Keri), an eco-forest retreat at Chapoli Dam (Canacona) and a women-centric jaggery tourism initiative in Cotigao. The Government is studying global best practices to formalise ecotourism.
