Nafisa Ali says ovarian cancer has progressed to liver
Mumbai, Sep 14 (PTI) Actor Nafisa Ali Sodhi on Monday said that she has been put on "targeted therapy" after a new scan revealed that her ovarian cancer has progressed to her liver.
The 69-year-old actor, who has been open about her battle with cancer in her social media posts, shared the new health update from a hospital bed.
"My treatment protocol has changed and now I have been put on Targeted Therapy… fighting the good fight. Thank you for always keeping my support energy strong .
"In very simple terms The PET/CT suggests that the ovarian/peritoneal cancer has progressed, with new deposits on the surface of the liver," Nafisa, who lives in Goa, shared on Instagram alongside her picture from a hospital bed.
According to American cancer society, targeted therapy treats cancer by targeting specific mutations on change on cancer cells. It is also used to stop and slow down cancer cells.
The "Junoon" star first shared her cancer diagnosis in 2018 and revealed that she was fighting a stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer.
She had a major surgery in 2019. In 2025, however, the actor revealed that her cancer had returned and she was resuming chemotherapy.
"A new chapter in my journey from today. I had my PET scan yesterday … so back to chemotherapy as surgery is not possible & it’s stage 4 cancer. Believe me …I love life," she wrote in the post
The actor has continued her work in movies despite health challenges. She featured in films such as "Max Min and Meowzaki" as well as "Uunchai" in recent years.
A former Miss India, Nafisa made her film debut with Shyam Benegal's "Junoon" opposite Shashi Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah.
Her other major movie roles include "Major Saab", "Bewafaa", "Life... In a Metro", "Guzaarish", "Yamla Pagla Deewana" and "Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3".
