SIR row: Owaisi challenges electoral roll revision in Supreme Court

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday, challenging the way the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is being carried out. The apex court agreed to hear his petition along with other pending pleas concerning the exercise.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and 10 prominent opposition leaders have also approached the Supreme Court over alleged irregularities in the SIR process and other related procedures.
Appearing for Owaisi, advocate Nizamuddin Pasha requested the bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi to list the petition alongside similar cases scheduled for hearing on Thursday.
Pasha told the bench that Owaisi's plea raised concerns over the manner in which the electoral roll revision was being conducted. In response, the CJI-led bench indicated that it would consider the request and the related petitions.
The advocate also informed the court that the relevant cases had been identified in the memorandum submitted with his listing request.
Owaisi's petition adds to the ongoing legal challenges to the SIR exercise, amid allegations that the revision has led to the deletion of voters' names from electoral rolls.
