MCD cracks down on illegal constructions in Kalindi Kunj

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday carried out a demolition drive in the Kalindi Kunj of southeast Delhi, targeting structures allegedly built illegally in the Yamuna floodplain’s O-Zone.
The MCD officials said only under-construction structures built on the floodplain were being demolished and asserted that strict action against illegal constructions across the city would continue. The action was carried out as part of the corporation’s ongoing drive against unauthorised constructions in the floodplain area.
Speaking on the ongoing action, MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said the civic body was surveying unauthorised constructions and buildings exceeding permissible height limits in view of a series of recent accidents in Delhi.
“Strict action will be taken based on this survey. Anyone who does not hold a valid licence or has violated MCD rules will face action,” Sharma said.
The officials further said that authorities launched the demolition drive in the Kalindi Kunj area on Tuesday morning, targeting structures allegedly built illegally and newly constructed in the floodplain.
The demolition was carried out with the assistance of local police and civic staff. Security arrangements were tightened around the site, and adequate police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order, a senior police officer said.
A large number of locals gathered at the spot as the demolition exercise continued under official supervision. Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said action against encroachments and illegal constructions was being undertaken in several areas due to court directions and in the larger public interest.
He said the objective was to prevent loss of life and property, ensure public safety and facilitate the smooth functioning of essential services.
The demolition drive comes amid the Delhi government’s ongoing crackdown on illegal constructions across the capital.
According to the Revenue Department’s daily inspection report, 42 sites were inspected across Delhi on June 16, taking the total number of sites inspected between June 5 and June 16 to 815.
A total of 13 demolition notices were issued during the day. Separately, the MCD reported action against illegal constructions at 13 properties on Tuesday. The civic body also sealed five properties, issued 25 show-cause notices, one sealing show-cause notice and five demolition orders.
With the latest action, MCD’s cumulative figures since the start of the drive have reached 230 demolitions, 242 property sealings, 355 show-cause notices, 152 sealing show-cause notices and 96 demolition orders.
