Man, toddler killed as house roof collapses in UP's Shahjahanpur

A 25-year-old man and his three-year-old nephew died Monday, August 17, morning after being buried under the debris of a collapsed house roof in Shahjahanpur district amid relentless rainfall since Sunday night, police said. A woman was critically injured in the incident.
Circle Officer (Powayan) Pravin Malik told PTI that in Mudiya Kurmiyat village, an adjacent "kutcha," or makeshift, structure taller than a neighboring pucca house caved in due to the rain and fell onto the pucca house's roof. The roof, which had no iron beam for support, then collapsed under the sudden weight.
Rajan and his nephew, Aarav, died on the spot after being trapped under the debris, while a woman identified as Kajal sustained critical injuries, police said.
Malik said police reached the scene after being alerted and, with the help of villagers, cleared the debris to rescue the victims and take them to the Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared Rajan and Aarav dead. Kajal was referred to the Government Medical College for further treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, Malik said.
