Major Jyotin Singh Memorial Football Trophy starts in Bishnupur

Maj (Dr) Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (P) Memorial Football Tournament 2026 commenced on 25 February 2026 at DSA Ground, Bishnupur, Manipur, under the aegis of the Indian Army and with the support of the All Manipur Football Association. Scheduled from 25 February to March 03, 2026, the week-long tournament features participation from 16 teams representing various parts of the region, bringing together young footballers in a spirited display of talent, discipline and sportsmanship.
Organised in honour of Major (Dr) Jyotin Singh, Ashok Chakra (P), the tournament pays tribute to his supreme sacrifice and enduring legacy. His exemplary courage, unwavering dedication and selfless service to the nation continue to inspire generations. The ceremonial inauguration was conducted in the presence of civil and military dignitaries, local representatives and enthusiastic members of the sporting fraternity. The event was attended by approximately 600 spectators and invitees.
The opening match between Loktak FC and Sangai FC set an energetic tone for the tournament. In a closely contested and exciting encounter, Loktak FC emerged victorious with a 2–1 win, displaying remarkable teamwork and determination. Beyond the competitive spirit, the tournament reflects the unifying power of sport in bringing together youth from diverse communities on a common platform of shared values and mutual respect.
The collaborative efforts of the Indian Army and the All Manipur Football Association convey a strong message of harmony, cooperation and constructive engagement through sport. Through this memorial tournament, the Indian Army reaffirms its commitment to honouring national heroes, strengthening civil–military relations and contributing towards a peaceful, progressive and inclusive environment in Manipur.
