Yogi pushes industry-ITI link for skilled youth jobs in UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed officials to strengthen links between industrial units and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), align courses with industry requirements and promote apprenticeships and on-the-job training to expand employment opportunities for skilled youth. Reviewing the action plan of the Department of Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Adityanath said regular employment fairs should be organised at every divisional headquarters, and skill development should be linked not only to domestic jobs but also to global employment opportunities.
“Skill development should also be linked with global opportunities along with employment,” he said, stressing the need for continuous dialogue between ITIs and industries.
According to a press statement, the chief minister also directed officials to operationalise the Centre for Innovation, Invention, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) in Gorakhpur, Muzaffarnagar and Bareilly at the earliest. He said they should be developed as centres of excellence for modern technology and industry-based training.
The meeting was informed that 150 Government ITIs are being upgraded with the support of Tata Technologies, while the process of upgrading another 62 ITIs is underway. Advanced skill laboratories have also been established in 37 Government ITIs with industry support.
Emphasising the role of instructors in ensuring quality training, Adityanath directed officials to expedite their selection and make provisions to give selected instructors weightage in regular appointments based on their experience and work. Officials said the selection process for 2,406 instructor posts had been completed and more than 2,200 selected instructors had already joined duty.
