LG Sandhu attends SRCC’s 100th Annual Day

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday attended the 100th Annual Day celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce at its campus, describing the centenary as a reflection of continuity, resilience and relevance, and calling on students to approach their careers with both confidence and a sense of responsibility toward society.
The event was attended by Rajat Sharma, Chairman of SRCC’s Governing Body, Ajay S Shriram, and Principal Prof Simrit Kaur, along with faculty members, students, parents, and alumni. Founded in 1926 by Sir Shri Ram, SRCC has completed a hundred years as one of India’s premier institutions in commerce and economics. The LG said the college’s founding vision, to prepare young minds for leadership in commerce and public life, remains as relevant today as it was a century ago.
“A centenary is not merely a marker of time. It is a reflection of continuity, resilience, and relevance,” Sandhu said in his address. “For a hundred years, SRCC has not only sustained excellence but has consistently adapted to changing academic, economic, and social landscapes.”
Sandhu recalled his previous visit to the campus in 2016, when he attended an Indo-US programme organised by the college’s Office of International Programmes, under its coordinator, Prof. Malletea Kumar. He said it was meaningful to revisit the campus and reflect on the institution’s journey.
In his address, the LG drew attention to the broader national context in which institutions like SRCC operate. He said India is at a significant juncture, with a growing economy, expanding global engagement, and rapid technological transformation creating both opportunities and challenges for young professionals.
He pointed to emerging areas, including digital finance, entrepreneurship, data analytics, and global trade, as fields where trained and ethically grounded individuals are increasingly needed.
