In the Union Budget 2024-25, the long-term capital gains tax on FII investments was raised from 10% to 12.5%, while the short-term capital gains tax saw a steep hike from 15% to 20%, marking a significant 5% increase.

Until 2021, there were only 55 million demat accounts registered, almost double of what was in 2013.
