Vizhinjam CFS to boost Keralam’s commercial, logistics sectors

Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty on Thursday said the CFS being constructed at Vizhinjam at an investment of Rs 25 crore would give a major boost to the commercial and logistics sectors in Keralam.

In a Facebook post, Kunhalikutty said he laid the foundation stone for the state's first Container Freight Station at Vizhinjam as part of the state government's 100-day action plan.

The project is being implemented by the public sector undertaking Kerala State Industrial Enterprises at an investment of Rs 25 crore, he said.

The CFS would help products from Keralam and neighbouring states reach international markets by leveraging the potential of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, the minister said.

He said the availability of services such as customs clearance at a single location would help expedite port-based cargo movement.

"The Vizhinjam CFS will develop into the state's largest public sector logistics hub in the coming years," Kunhalikutty said.

The project would create employment opportunities for youth in the modern logistics and international trade sectors and open up new avenues for entrepreneurship, he said.

The minister said the project would provide further impetus to the state's development.
