Ujjain sets world record with 33.27 lakh diyas lit on Modi’s birthday

Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain set a world record on Thursday evening by lighting 33.27 lakh diyas simultaneously along the banks of the Kshipra river, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday, a state official said.

The lamps were lit as part of the ‘Ashirwad ka Diya’ programme. Following a siren at 7 pm, volunteers illuminated the diyas across the designated locations within three minutes, the official said.

Across Madhya Pradesh, a total of 3.55 crore diyas were lit simultaneously as part of the celebrations.

The programme witnessed large-scale public participation across the state, with the lamp-lighting initiative intended to convey a message of service and commitment, according to the official.

In Ujjain, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and state in-charge Mahendra Singhi participated in the lamp-lighting ceremony at Ram Ghat along the Kshipra river.

Volunteers lit diyas at several ghats, including Ram Ghat, Datta Akhara, Kedareshwar Ghat, Sunhari Ghat, Bhookhi Mata Ghat and Mahakal Mahalok, at 7 pm before taking part in the ‘Shipra Aarti’.

The illuminated riverbanks presented a striking visual spectacle, while volunteers also created a portrait of Prime Minister Modi using lit diyas at the Kartik Mela ground in Ujjain.
