Delhi CM launches launches organ donation portal, pledges to donate organs

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched the national capital's organ donation portal and pledged to donate their organs.

The initiative was launched as part of programmes under 'Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan' marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and his 25 years of public service.

The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) has signed an MoU with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) to promote organ donation in the national capital, officials said.

Gupta urged people in the city to come forward and pledge their organs for donation.

"Organ donation reflects the true spirit of Seva Sankalp. One person's generous and noble pledge can save several lives," she said.

"The campaign has the potential to offer a new hope to patients waiting for transplants and with active participation from citizens, organ donation can be turned into a people-driven movement," Gupta added.

The officials said people can scan a QR code on the portal to register their pledge and generate an organ or tissue donation pledge certificate.

The Delhi government has also made SOTTO operational at GB Pant Hospital to ensure better coordination of organ donation and organ and tissue transplantation and promote donation activities, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister's Office.

The Health Department organised an event at the Delhi Secretariat where the online portal was launched.

Through the portal, Delhi residents can join the organ donation pledge campaign and register their pledge online.

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said it was a matter of pride that Gupta herself pledged to donate her organs and became the first person to register on the SOTTO website.

Singh appealed to citizens to come forward, take the pledge and become part of the initiative.
