Kerala cabinet approves Rs 8 lakh aid for kin of nine rain related death

Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on Wednesday that the state cabinet has decided to provide Rs 8 lakh in financial assistance to the families of nine people who died in separate rain-related incidents in the state. 

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Satheesan said five people died and one went missing in a flash flood, while two people each died in Idukki and Kottayam districts.

The chief minister said the government would provide Rs 8 lakh to the family of each person who died in the incidents.

Satheesan also said the government has decided to launch a statewide campaign to curb the rising number of road accidents and related deaths.

The campaign will include awareness programmes as well as strict punitive measures, he said, and urged people to support the government's efforts.  (with inputs from PTI)
